Oro Valley, Arizona
Grace Elizabeth (Bailey) Milton, born in Washington, D.C. on November 15, 1920, died in Oro Valley, Arizona on December 20, 2010, one month after her 90th birthday. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick John Bailey and Grace Adele (Gilman) Bailey, her two brothers, John and Gilman Bailey and, recently, her husband of 69 years, General Theodore "Ross" Milton. Entering college at the age of 16, Grace graduated cum laude from Bryn Mawr College with a degree in English. While attending Bryn Mawr, Grace met Ross at West Point and they were married in 1942 before Ross was sent to England during World War II. Following the war, life took a fascinating and challenging turn. As Ross' career advanced, Grace and their three young children moved from Washington, D.C. to Japan, the Philippines, Hawaii, Virginia, and back to Washington D.C. before ending their military life with an six-year tour at NATO in Brussels, Belgium. An intellectual at heart, Grace took full advantage of her travels, learning languages and local customs, and interacting with ambassadors, politicians, senior military representatives and numerous others from all over the world. As she once said, "I have had the most interesting life of anyone I know." Grace is survived by Patricia (Junius) Morgan, Theodore Ross (Judy) Milton, Jr., and Barbara Bayley Milton (Mark Harju); seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services are planned for both Grace and Ross on January 21, 2011, Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
